NHRC Ne Railways Ko Notice Bheja: ‘Sirf Halal Meat Serve Karna Human Rights Ki Prima Facie Violation’h.

Bar & Bench aur NDTV ki authentic reports ke mutabik National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) ne Indian Railways ko notice bhej kar clarification maanga hai ki kya trains me sirf Halal-certified meat hi serve kiya ja raha hai. NHRC ne ek complaint par action lete hue kaha ki agar public transport jaise Railways sirf halal-processed meat use kare, to yeh food choice, religious freedom, aur equality rights ki violation ho sakti hai.
Complaint me yeh allegation tha ki Halal-only practice se non-Muslim communities, khaaskar Hindu aur Sikh passengers, ko unke religious beliefs ke mutabik khane ke options nahi milte. Complainant ne yeh bhi claim kiya ki is policy ka asar un SC/Hindu communities par bhi padta hai jo traditionally meat trade se jude hue hain — yani unki rozi-roti aur profession freedom bhi impact hoti hai.
NHRC ke member Priyank Kanoongo ne observe kiya ki Railways ek public service provider hone ke nate constitutionally obliged hai ki sab passengers ke food preferences aur religious diversity ka respect kare. Bench ne kaha ki agar sirf halal meat serve kiya ja raha ho, to yeh secular ethos ke khilaaf ja sakta hai.
NHRC ne is case ko Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 ki Section 12 ke tahat register kar liya hai aur Ministry of Railways ko 2 hafton me Action Taken Report (ATR) dene ko kaha hai — specially unki meat procurement policy aur onboard catering ke process ki detail ke saath.
Doosri taraf, Indian Railways aur IRCTC ne media ko bataya ki unke paas “Halal-only” service ki koi official policy nahi hai. Unka kehna hai ki catering FSSAI guidelines ke hisaab se hoti hai aur Halal certification ke koi separate records Railways ke paas nahi hain. Halanki, NHRC ab bhi complaint ke allegations ki official investigation kar raha hai.
Philhal Railways ki taraf se NHRC notice par koi detailed public response nahi aaya hai, aur matter inquiry stage me hai.
