Mumbai ke Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children ke doctors ne medical history mein ek bada aur historic breakthrough hasil kiya hai. Doctors ne advanced liver cancer se joojh rahi 2 saal ki bacchi Aphsa par India ka pehla pediatric liver auto-transplant successfully perform kiya hai. Yeh procedure na sirf India mein balki duniya bhar mein kisi bachche par pehli baar kiya gaya aisa case mana ja raha hai.
June 2025 mein Aphsa ko hepatoblastoma diagnose hua, jo bachchon mein hone wala common liver cancer hai. Tumour liver ke beech mein tha aur major blood vessels ko affect kar raha tha, jiski wajah se normal surgery possible nahi thi. Chemotherapy se tumour thoda shrink hua, lekin fir bhi operable nahi bana. Donor na milne ki wajah se regular liver transplant ka option bhi possible nahi tha.

12 December 2025 ko lagbhag 14 ghante lambi surgery mein Aphsa ka poora liver (sirf 500 grams) body se bahar nikala gaya.
Ismein se 70% cancer-affected hissa remove kiya gaya aur healthy 30% liver ko reconstruct karke wapas body mein re-implant kiya gaya.
Is surgery mein paediatric surgery, liver transplant, anaesthesia, ICU, radiology, pathology aur oncology ke specialists ne milkar kaam kiya. Ek team liver reconstruction mein busy thi, jabki dusri team bacchi ke body ke andar major blood vessels rebuild kar rahi thi.
Dr Pradnya Bendre ne bataya ki Duraent Lifesciences ne perfusion machine free of cost provide ki, jo normally ₹3 lakh per day tak rent hoti hai. Social organisations aur government schemes ke support se poori surgery family ke liye free rahi. Private hospital mein iska kharcha ₹15–20 lakh tak ho sakta tha.
