Brinda Karat Slams TMC Over Kolkata Gang-Rape, Says Bengal Has Become Unsafe for Women
New Delhi, India – June 28, 2025:
CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat has launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government over the alleged gang-rape of a female student at South Calcutta Law College, calling West Bengal “one of the most unsafe places for women” under TMC rule.
Speaking to ANI, Karat said:
“This is a highly condemnable crime taking place inside a law campus. It is happening because of the impunity that rapists and criminals enjoy under the TMC government.”
TMC Accused of Protecting Rapists
Karat alleged that the main accused in the current case is a known TMC student leader who was given a job by the campus administration, suggesting direct political patronage in protecting those who foster a “rape culture”.
She also referred to a past incident:
“After the RG Kar Medical College case, it was clear that the TMC government patronises and protects those responsible for such heinous crimes.”
“Bengal Unsafe for Women” – Karat’s Sharp Remarks
Condemning the law and order situation, Karat added:
“The TMC government is singularly responsible for making Bengal one of the most unsafe places in India for women.”
