Goa CM Pramod Sawant Launches ‘Majhi Bus’ Public Transport System with Digital Platform and Per-Km Subsidy

Sanquelim, Goa – June 28, 2025:
In a move to revolutionize Goa’s public transport infrastructure, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday announced the official launch of the ‘Majhi Bus’ New Public Transport System. The initiative combines digital tracking with a subsidy model, aimed at improving travel efficiency for both locals and tourists.

As part of the scheme, private bus operators who join the digital platform will be provided a ₹3 per kilometre subsidy, encouraging wide participation from the transport sector.

“To bring a revolution in the public transport system, we have started this service. All private bus owners joining the digital platform are being given a ₹3/km subsidy,” said CM Sawant while speaking to ANI.

The Majhi Bus platform will enable real-time bus tracking, improving commuter convenience, route optimization, and accountability. The Chief Minister also extended gratitude to the Transport Department for successfully implementing the program.

Observing 50 Years of Emergency

Earlier on June 26, CM Sawant participated in a special screening event in Margao, marking the 50th anniversary of the Emergency (June 25, 1975).

“It is important to observe this day for future generations… to understand the consequences of suppressing civil liberties,” Sawant remarked.

The commemorative screenings were held across multiple locations in Goa and India, drawing participation from students, citizens, and political workers.

In a parallel statement, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma criticized the Congress-era Emergency as a “dark period in Indian history”, referring to June 25 as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ — a day when democratic values were, he claimed, crushed under Indira Gandhi’s leadership.
