Commissioner of Police Ravinder Kumar Singal said the recovered crocodiles were marsh crocodiles, and the turtles too are all of the same species — black pond turtles. Both these species are protected under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, and the crime of trading in them is punishable with seven years in jail
