Incidents of stubble burning in Punjab show no signs of abating. However, local factors are not the sole reason for the poor air quality in Delhi; the burning of paddy stubble in the fields of Punjab and Haryana following the harvest is also a growing cause for concern. According to a report by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (as of November 4), 2,347 cases of stubble burning have been recorded in the state. Furthermore, environmental fines totaling ₹40.37 lakh have been imposed, of which ₹23.05 lakh has already been recovered.
