24th Day of Student Protest in Ranchi: Fourth Round of Talks with Government Scheduled; Protesters Issue Ultimatum

The student protest underway at Ranchi’s Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium entered its 24th day on Monday. Students have been continuously demonstrating to press for their demands. They have called for a siege of the Chief Minister’s residence on August 20. However, a fourth round of talks between government representatives and the protesting students is scheduled for Monday prior to that. The future course of the agitation will become clear only after the dialogue between the government and the students. Three rounds of talks have already taken place, yet no final resolution regarding the demands has been reached. During the course of the movement, students had also attempted to lay siege to the Legislative Assembly, an event that saw a confrontation between protesters and the police, resulting in a lathi-charge. The upcoming fourth round of talks is now considered crucial.
