A political shake-up in Punjab: Will the BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal join forces?
Punjab’s political landscape is currently in a state of flux. This is because there is growing speculation about a potential reunion between the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the BJP. Political circles are abuzz with the possibility that the two parties might form an alliance for the Punjab Assembly elections scheduled for February 2027. However, there is no official confirmation or concrete claim yet—it remains merely a topic of speculation. While the BJP has clearly stated its intention to contest all 117 seats in Punjab, there is internal pressure within the Sukhbir Badal-led Shiromani Akali Dal to engage with the BJP. According to sources, the party’s Lok Sabha MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal and her brother Bikram Singh Majithia are advocating for the two parties to come together again.
