Allegations against CM Bhagwant Mann’s wife for suppressing a rape case; NHRC takes cognizance and seeks a report.
A major controversy has erupted in Punjab politics. Allegations have been leveled against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s wife, accusing her of demanding ₹5 crore to suppress an alleged rape case. Taking cognizance of the matter, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought a report from the Punjab Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP) within two weeks. The issue has now taken a political turn following a complaint linked to former Justice Ranjit Singh. The BJP has attacked the government, terming it a serious matter, while the Congress has stated that the truth will emerge after an investigation. SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal has also targeted Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over the issue.
