Amit Shah’s message is clear: only citizens have the right to reside in India; the opposition hits back.

Politics surrounding the issue of infiltrators and illegal immigrants in the country has heated up once again. Delivering a stern message regarding national security, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that India is not a *dharmashala* (a free rest house) and that only legitimate citizens have the right to live in the country. Speaking at the Intelligence Bureau’s (IB) National Security Strategies Conference, Shah described infiltration as a threat to the nation’s security, economy, and demography. Following Shah’s statement, the opposition targeted the government, turning the issue of infiltration into a political battleground.
