Bilateral meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy; efforts to end the war before winter

Amid the Russia-Ukraine war, US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a significant meeting. During this meeting, held on the sidelines of the UNGA, discussions focused on ways to end the war, exerting pressure on Russia, attacks on energy infrastructure, and Ukraine’s air defense needs. Zelenskyy stated that both the US and Ukraine want the war to end before winter and for a path to negotiations to open up. Meanwhile, during the talks, Trump urged Ukraine to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries. Ukraine indicated that if Russia guarantees it will stop attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure, Kyiv could also cease strikes on Russian energy facilities. Additionally, discussions were held regarding Patriot interceptor production and a winter air defense package for Ukraine.
