New Delhi, India – June 28, 2025:

The committee includes:
- Satpal Singh (Former Union Minister)
- Meenakshi Lekhi (Former Union Minister)
- Biplab Deb (MP)
- Manan Mishra (MP)
According to an official party statement, the panel will visit the crime scene and submit a report to the BJP president.
“JP Nadda has strongly condemned the heinous incident and expressed concern over the law and order situation in West Bengal,” the statement read.
Arrests and Investigation So Far
The Kolkata Police has arrested four individuals in connection with the case:
- Monojit Mishra (31)
- Zaib Ahmed (19)
- Pramit Mukhopadhyay (20)
- Pinaki Banerjee (55) – the college guard
The first three accused were either former students or staff of the college. The accused will be presented before the ACJM at Alipore, South 24 Parganas, with a plea for police custody to aid further investigation.
NCW Demands Action Under BNS
The National Commission for Women (NCW), led by Vijaya Rahatkar, has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident.
Rahatkar has urged Kolkata Police to complete the investigation swiftly under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Political Fallout: BJP Demands Mamata’s Resignation
The case has triggered a major political face-off between TMC and BJP.
BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh on Saturday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that the rising crimes against women reflect the “character of TMC.”
“This was pre-planned. The deteriorating safety of women in Bengal is a direct result of CM Mamata Banerjee’s irresponsible governance,” said Ghosh.
He further claimed that criminals feel emboldened under the TMC regime, and that atrocities against women are increasing due to lack of strong action.
