Congress stages protest against Harpal Cheema led by Sachin Pilot; police use water cannons on demonstrators

Chandigarh: A massive commotion unfolded during a protest by the Punjab Congress. Led by Punjab Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot, party leaders and workers marched towards the residence of Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. To halt the protesters, the Chandigarh Police had set up multi-layered barricades beyond the Punjab Congress Bhawan. When Congress workers attempted to breach the barricades, the police deployed water cannons. Faced with the high-pressure jets of water, the protesters were forced to retreat. During the incident, several Congress leaders and workers, including Sachin Pilot and Partap Singh Bajwa, were detained. Highlighting the death of Gulzar Singh as a key issue, the Congress demanded action against Harpal Singh Cheema and an impartial inquiry into the entire matter. The protest led to a tense atmosphere in Sector-15 and surrounding areas for a prolonged period, further heating up the political climate in Punjab.
