Doctors’ strike in Maharashtra over CCMP dispute; High Court reprimands protesters

Resident doctors across Mumbai and Maharashtra launched an indefinite strike and protest against the Maharashtra Medical Council’s (MMC) decision to issue registration certificates—under the CCMP scheme—to Homeopathy (BHMS) doctors, authorizing them to prescribe modern pharmacology and allopathic medicines. This protest disrupted OPD services at major hospitals such as KEM, Sion, Nair, and JJ. As resident doctors at government and municipal-run medical colleges and hospitals across the state began their indefinite strike on Wednesday, patients in crowded OPDs faced hours of waiting, numerous elective surgeries were postponed, and academic activities came to a halt. Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court reprimanded the protesters.
