Election Commission clarifies: Existing voters whose names are missing from the draft electoral roll during the Special Summary Revision (SSR) can submit Form-6; move sparks political uproar!
The Election Commission (EC) has issued an important clarification for existing voters whose names have gone missing from the draft electoral roll during the Special Summary Revision (SSR) process. The Commission has clarified that such voters can submit Form-6 to have their names re-included. Doing so will not be considered a “false declaration,” and no legal action will be initiated against them solely on this basis. In fact, Form-6 typically requires a declaration that the applicant is seeking to be included in the electoral roll for the first time—a requirement that had made existing voters hesitant to use the form. The Commission has clarified that this provision has been in effect since August 1, 2022, and that, under specified conditions, existing voters are also eligible to submit Form-6. Meanwhile, this clarification from the Election Commission has intensified political activity. The Samajwadi Party has targeted the BJP with pointed questions, while the BJP and its allies have described the move as a step taken in the interest of the voters.
