FIR Filed Over Alleged Purification Ritual After Kharge’s Rally; Dispute Reaches Delhi
Desk: The controversy surrounding the alleged purification of a temple following Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s rally in Haldwani has now led to police action. Acting on a complaint filed by advocate Anju, the Haldwani Kotwali police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons under Sections 196 and 299 of the BNS, as well as Section 3(1)(R) of the SC/ST Act, and have initiated an investigation. The police will now ascertain whether the alleged purification incident actually took place and, if so, identify the individuals responsible. Framing this as an issue concerning Dalit dignity and caste-based discrimination, the Congress has raised the matter in Delhi following protests in Haldwani; Congress MP Mallu Ravi has lodged a complaint at the Parliament Street police station demanding action. All eyes are now on the outcome of the police investigation.
