Fire at Amravati District Women’s Hospital; Government Orders High-Level Probe

A major tragedy occurred on Monday morning when a massive fire broke out in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Amravati District Women’s Hospital in Maharashtra. Three newborns lost their lives in this tragic incident, while 36 infants admitted to the NICU were safely evacuated. Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have been caused by a suspected explosion in a ventilator. A total of 39 newborns were admitted to the NICU at the time of the incident. Amidst the fire and smoke, doctors, nurses, and hospital staff carried out a rescue operation to bring the infants to safety. Some of the infants have been shifted to another hospital for better medical care. Serious questions are being raised regarding the hospital administration’s safety measures following the incident. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter and promised strict action against those found responsible.
