Following Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation: Anti-government slogans at JNU—a student protest or a new political front?

JNU is back in the headlines following the paper leak controversy and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The JNUSU organized a ‘Victory Torch Procession’ on the campus, where students raised slogans such as “Azadi” (Freedom), “Inquilab Zindabad” (Long Live the Revolution), and calls for freedom from the BJP and the RSS. Students also protested against the NTA, the New Education Policy, and police action. Meanwhile, the government maintains that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the paper leak; fast-track courts have been established, and every possible step is being taken to safeguard students’ interests. The big question, therefore, is: why do the protests continue even when the government has assured action?
