The Maharashtra government has announced plans to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. A seven-member high-level committee, headed by retired Justice Ranjana Desai, has been constituted for this purpose. While making the announcement in the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the members of the committee have already been finalized. He added that the state government aims to introduce and pass the bill related to the Uniform Civil Code in both the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council during the upcoming winter session in Nagpur.
