Ganga and Yamuna in spate! Difficulties mount in Varanasi and Prayagraj; PM Modi speaks to officials.

The rising water level of the Ganga in Varanasi is a growing cause for concern. According to the Central Water Commission, the water level reached 70.54 meters on Thursday morning—surpassing the warning mark of 70.26 meters. Although the water remains below the danger mark of 71.26 meters, the situation has become increasingly difficult for residents of low-lying areas and those living near the ghats. Flood-like conditions and waterlogging persist in several areas surrounding the Ganga and Varuna rivers. As a precautionary measure, the administration has suspended boat operations on the Ganga and urged people to stay away from the ghats and areas with strong currents. Amidst the escalating flood threat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the situation in his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi.
