Garbage mound collapses in Conakry; 30 dead, 6 injured; rescue operations underway

A massive mound of garbage collapsed at the city’s largest landfill in Conakry, the capital of Guinea, following heavy rains. Thirty people lost their lives in this tragic incident, while several others are reported injured. The heavy rainfall increased water pressure on the waste pile, triggering a sudden landslide. Nearby houses and shacks were buried under the debris, and several vehicles were also caught in the collapse. Search and rescue operations are currently underway at the site, with excavators being used to clear the debris and search for those trapped underneath.
