Holiday in Uttarakhand shifted from Friday to Sunday; outraged clerics call the decision wrong and threaten protests…
A decision by the Uttarakhand government has become a subject of debate. The government has abolished the Friday holiday in madrasas and replaced it with a weekly holiday on Sunday. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that since the Uniform Civil Code is in effect in the state, there should be a consistent system across all sectors, including education. Following this announcement, Islamic scholars and religious leaders began opposing the move. They are now demanding that the government revoke the decision, warning that if it is not withdrawn, people associated with the madrasas will stage a protest (dharna) in front of the Chief Minister’s residence.
