Kanwar Yatra 2026: Kali Sena’s appeal, opposition from Maulanas, and escalating controversy
The month of Sawan is set to begin on July 30, and millions of Shiva devotees are busy preparing for the Kanwar Yatra. However, a statement by Swami Anand Swaroop Maharaj, the national president of Kali Sena, has sparked a fresh controversy even before the pilgrimage begins. He has appealed to Kanwariyas not to purchase goods or food items from shops owned by non-Hindus. He has also demanded that shops along the Kanwar route display nameplates. Following this statement, Muslim clerics expressed strong opposition, while a section of the saint community extended its support.
