Karnataka ke Haveri district mein ek chhote sabzi wale, Shankargouda Hadimani, ko Goods and Services Tax (GST) department ne Rs 29 lakh ka notice bheja, jisse local traders mein khalbali mach gayi.

Shankargouda, jo Municipal High School grounds ke paas chhoti dukaan chalate hain, ne pichhle 4 saal mein UPI aur digital wallets ke zariye Rs 1.63 crore ke transactions kiye.

GST officials ne is amount ke basis par unhe Rs 29 lakh ka tax demand notice bheja, jabki fresh vegetables, jo woh farmers se kharidkar bechte hain, GST se exempt hain

Shankargouda ne kaha, “Itni badi rakam kaise chukayenge? Yeh impossible hai.” Woh har saal Income Tax Returns (ITR) file karte hain aur records maintain karte hain.

ClearTax ke according, agar koi vendor farmers se fresh, unprocessed vegetables kharidkar bechta hai, to uspar GST nahi lagta. Lekin Karnataka GST department ne 12 July 2025 ko announce kiya ki Rs 40 lakh (goods) ya Rs 20 lakh (services) se zyada turnover wale traders ko GST register karna hoga, warna notices bheje jayenge.
