Major Change in Agnipath Scheme: Agniveers Can Now Serve in the Army for an Additional 2 Years
The Central Government has introduced a significant change to the Agnipath scheme, approving a proposal that allows Agniveers to serve for an additional two-year period following the completion of their initial four-year term. Under this new arrangement, 25 percent of Agniveers will be inducted as regular soldiers, while the remaining 75 percent will be given the opportunity to serve in the Army for two more years. Upon completing this second term, they may also be considered for induction as regular soldiers, depending on their performance and the requirements of the Army. During this extended period, Agniveers will receive higher pay and an increased ‘Seva Nidhi’ (service fund) corpus compared to the original terms. This government decision has been welcomed by youth preparing to join the Agnipath scheme; they believe it will further boost the morale of those aspiring to serve in the Army.
