On the issue of a firecracker ban, the Supreme Court remarked: “Use Virat Kohli [to raise awareness], but imposing a ban…”

The Supreme Court is not in favor of a complete ban on firecrackers. During a hearing regarding the prohibition of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR during Diwali, the Court reserved its verdict. A bench comprising Justice M.M. Sundresh and Justice Prasanna V. Burale observed that “merely issuing orders every year is not enough to tackle the problem of air pollution; instead, concrete and long-term efforts must be made at a higher level. Orders are issued on this issue annually, yet they are more often violated than followed—the matter has effectively become an ‘academic exercise.’ Governments and agencies should explore new, innovation-driven measures for pollution control.”
