Political row over Delhi’s ‘Lakshmi Yojana’; BJP protests against AAP MLAs

A political standoff has intensified between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP regarding Delhi’s ‘Lakshmi Yojana’. The BJP staged protests outside the offices of AAP MLAs, alleging that the previous AAP government failed to fulfill its promise of providing ₹2,100 monthly to women, whereas the current BJP government is implementing a scheme to provide ₹2,500 in assistance. According to the Delhi government, a provision of ₹5,110 crore has been made for the scheme in the 2026-27 budget, which is expected to benefit approximately 17 lakh women. The BJP also targeted AAP over the opposition’s walkout during the assembly discussion on the scheme, while a group of women met Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to express their gratitude for the initiative.
