Protests against Xi Jinping in the US; slogans of ‘Free Tibet’ and ‘Free Hong Kong’ raised
Protests took place in Washington against Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to the United States. While US President Donald Trump hosted a state dinner in honor of Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, protesters outside the White House chanted slogans such as “Free Tibet,” “Free Hong Kong,” and “Xi Jinping, You’re Not Welcome.” The protest saw participation from individuals associated with groups advocating for Tibet, the Uyghurs, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Southern Mongolia, and Chinese pro-democracy movements. The protesters demanded the release of Tibetan political prisoners and the 11th Panchen Lama, the release of Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Jimmy Lai, and the resumption of dialogue between Chinese and Tibetan representatives.
