Seven dead so far in Chamoli tunnel accident! 19 people rescued; search for 3 others continues.

Relief and rescue operations continued through the night under the supervision of the district administration following an incident where debris and water flooded a THDC tunnel currently under construction at Mayapur in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district. District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar is personally present at the site, overseeing the rescue efforts. The TRT tunnel, part of THDC’s Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project, spans approximately 3 kilometers. A cave-in caused debris and water to flood a section of the tunnel—roughly 1.50 kilometers long—trapping some of the workers inside. A total of 22 people were reported trapped; of these, 19 have been brought out during the overnight rescue operation, while the search and rescue mission for the remaining three is ongoing.
