Surendra Rajput Slams Amit Shah: Appointment Letters Aren’t Jobs, UP Needs Real Employment

Congress leader Surendra Rajput has launched a scathing attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the ongoing recruitment celebrations in Uttar Pradesh. Speaking to ANI ahead of a grand event in Lucknow, Rajput accused the BJP government of distributing appointment letters like postmen instead of creating fresh employment opportunities.

“There are over 1.9 lakh vacancies in the police force alone, and lakhs of other posts remain unfilled—be it for teachers or lab assistants. Instead of creating jobs, the government is distributing appointment letters for already-filled positions,” Rajput said.

He added sarcastically,

“If you give people jobs, appointment letters will reach them automatically like they used to—by post. What you’re doing is a postman’s job, not a Home Minister’s. There’s nothing to be proud of in this.”

His remarks came just hours before Union Home Minister Amit Shah was set to distribute 60,244 appointment letters to newly selected UP Police constables at a high-profile event in Defence Expo Ground, Lucknow.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hailed the mass recruitment as a “historic moment” for the state. He posted on X:

“New Uttar Pradesh of New India is going to witness a historic moment today. Hon’ble Union Home Minister Amit Shah will give appointment letters to 60,244 candidates selected in the largest police recruitment examination ever conducted by UP Police.”

CM Yogi emphasized that under the guidance of PM Modi, the state is fulfilling the vision of a “Safe Uttar Pradesh” while empowering the youth.

Notably, out of the 60,244 recruited constables, 12,048 are women, marking a historic inclusion of female candidates in any Indian security force at this scale.

UP Police DGP celebrated the milestone with a post on X:

“From aspirants to protectors — today, 60,244 dreams march into reality. This historic recruitment marks a new dawn for UP Police. Congratulations to every young man and woman who earned the khaki with courage and merit.”

The UP Police Constable Recruitment Exam 2024 was held on August 23, 24, 25, 30, and 31 across 67 districts in two shifts daily. The massive process involved 1,174 centers and was described as one of the most transparent and technology-driven recruitment efforts in India.

The UP Police shared a video tribute to the selected candidates, highlighting the transparency and scale of the exam.

Over the past eight years, the Yogi-led government claims to have provided over 8.5 lakh government jobs in the state.
