Tensions Escalate Over Farmers’ Protest in Kurukshetra; Demand for Paddy Procurement Heats Up

Kurukshetra, Haryana: Farmers in Shahabad, Kurukshetra, took to the streets to demand the commencement of paddy procurement. Farmers belonging to the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Charuni group) blocked the National Highway. Farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni stated unequivocally that they would not move from the road, even if it meant facing gunfire. A confrontation subsequently ensued between the police and the farmers; the police used water cannons and fired tear gas shells, and some farmer leaders were taken into custody.
