Thousands of farmers marched to Delhi, Punjab-Haryana border closed, heavy police force deployed

Thousands of farmers from Punjab are reaching the Shambhu border to march to Delhi. Farmer organizations have started a major agitation against the proposed Indo-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The administration has completely sealed the Shambhu border. Haryana Police has tightened security with heavy barricading, concrete blocks, water tankers and tear gas. Farmers say the proposed FTA will have a serious impact on Indian agriculture, the dairy industry and the livelihoods of small farmers.
