Uproar continues over Sahil Wakode’s death at IIT Bombay; protests intensify despite 18 demands

The controversy surrounding the death of IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode continues to escalate. On Tuesday, the Bharatiya Vidyarthi Morcha staged a massive protest outside the IIT Bombay campus. Demonstrators raised slogans demanding justice for Sahil and also voiced opposition against Devendra Fadnavis. Heavy police deployment and barricading were put in place outside the institute in anticipation of the protest. Police detained some protesters as the demonstration turned aggressive. The protesters are demanding a public apology from IIT Bombay regarding Sahil’s death and an investigation into the matter by an independent committee. Sahil Wakode was a second-year B.Tech student in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay. He was found dead in his hostel room on September 18. Following allegations of caste-based harassment raised by his family, a case was registered under the SC/ST Act, and the investigation was handed over to the Crime Branch.
