Uproar in Bhopal over assault on lawyer; advocates boycott court proceedings

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: Lawyers are outraged following reports of an alleged assault and mistreatment of an advocate at the Jahangirabad police station in Bhopal. The aggrieved lawyer, Rakesh Rawal, alleges that after he changed his route due to a traffic jam, the police took him to the station, where he was assaulted and humiliated. He has also accused certain police personnel of throwing him into the mud and beating him. Following the incident, a large number of lawyers staged a protest outside the Jahangirabad police station. The Bhopal Advocates’ Association has announced a boycott of court proceedings, demanding the registration of an FIR and strict action against the accused police personnel.
