A Breathing Crisis in Delhi-NCR! Delhi Government Takes Action Against Pollution: Vehicle Checks and Fines Totaling Lakhs
With the onset of winter, pollution levels in Delhi-NCR have begun to rise sharply. In several parts of the capital, the Air Quality Index (AQI) has crossed the 300 mark. An AQI of 396 was recorded in Rohini, 335 near India Gate-Janpath, and 305 in the vicinity of Akshardham. Meanwhile, an AQI of 362 was recorded in Sector-62, Noida, and 331 in Knowledge Park-5, Greater Noida. To curb pollution, a ‘Winter Action Plan’ has been in effect in Delhi since November 1st. The entry of vehicles from outside the city that do not meet BS-VI emission standards has been prohibited. Intensive vehicle checks are underway at several borders, including the Ghazipur border. On the first day of the action plan, 14,930 vehicles were inspected; 1,539 vehicles were turned back, and 62 were impounded. A total of Rs 68.4 lakh in fines was imposed for violations of the regulations.
