A well-like structure discovered beneath the debris following the demolition of a mosque within the Saharanpur Collectorate complex has brought the entire matter into the spotlight. Manoj Kumar Yadav, Assistant Archaeology Officer with the Uttar Pradesh State Archaeology Department, visited the site to conduct a detailed inspection; he personally descended into the structure to examine its design, bricks, and construction materials. According to the archaeology officer’s preliminary assessment, the structure likely dates back to the post-medieval architectural period and is estimated to be between 200 and 250 years old. However, due to the debris inside, it remains unclear whether this is merely a well or if another historical structure lies beyond it. Meanwhile, political rhetoric surrounding the issue has intensified; the opposition has raised questions regarding the survey and the action taken, while the government maintains that the full truth will only emerge after the investigation is complete.
