Satya Niketan Incident: Delhi Government Takes Action After 7 Deaths; 5 MCD Officials Suspended
The rescue operation following the tragic building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan has concluded. Seven people lost their lives in the incident, while five others were injured. The building’s owner, Urmila Gupta, and her husband, Hariram Gupta—who were arrested in connection with the case—have been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days and sent to Tihar Jail. Meanwhile, their son, Mahesh Gupta, has been placed in police custody for two days. The Delhi government has also taken significant action following the tragedy, suspending five MCD officials. A decision has been made to conduct structural audits and mandate building safety certification for structures taller than five stories. Structural audits will also be carried out for schools and nursing homes.
