Bengal: Controversy over meat and fish during Durga Puja; ‘Dry Day’ announced for the first time on Maha Ashtami
A political debate regarding meat, fish, and alcohol has intensified in West Bengal ahead of Durga Puja. Dhirendra Shastri, also known as ‘Baba Bageshwar’, has appealed to people to abstain from consuming non-vegetarian food during the festival. His statement has further fueled the controversy within Bengal’s political landscape. Meanwhile, several major decisions regarding Durga Puja have been announced; liquor shops and bars across the state will remain closed on Maha Ashtami. Additionally, the use of DJs during Durga Puja and immersion processions has been banned, and the Red Road Puja Carnival has been cancelled.
