BJP and VHP lash out at Hamid Ansari over his statement, calling him ‘ungrateful’

Political temperatures have risen in the country following a statement by former Vice President Hamid Ansari. Ansari cited an old remark by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, stating that the real threat to India is not communism but Hindu right-wing communalism. He noted that the preface to A.G. Noorani’s 2019 book, *The RSS: A Menace to India*, reflects the sentiments of many Indian Muslims today. In this preface, Noorani referred to comments made by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru—recorded by former Foreign Secretary Jagat Singh Mehta during a meeting of Ministry of External Affairs officials—in which Nehru stated that the actual threat to India was Hindu right-wing communalism, not communism. Following this statement, the BJP and VHP have expressed strong objection and launched a scathing attack on Ansari.
