Devastation from Earthquake in Japan: 13 Dead; High Alert After Over 170 Aftershocks

Japan has once again been struck by a powerful earthquake. Following a massive 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Kyushu on Tuesday, more than 170 aftershocks were recorded by 11 AM on Wednesday. So far, 13 deaths have been confirmed, and many people have been injured. The earthquake caused bridges to collapse and damaged numerous buildings. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has warned the public to remain vigilant for the next week. According to Japan’s public broadcaster NHK, a JMA official stated that the next two to three days are particularly critical, and further earthquakes reaching magnitudes of up to 7 could occur. Experts have urged those involved in relief and rescue operations to take regular breaks amidst the intense heat to prevent issues such as heatstroke.
