Dia Mirza’s video removed; BJP goes on the offensive, AIMIM raises questions—why has politics erupted over Diwali?
A controversy that began with an appeal to celebrate a pollution-free Diwali in Mumbai has now taken on a political dimension. As part of a BMC awareness campaign, actress Dia Mirza urged people to reduce the use of firecrackers and be mindful of the environment. However, following an objection raised by Mumbai BJP president Amit Satam, the BMC removed her video from social media. BMC Mayor Ritu Tawde also provided a clarification on the matter. Meanwhile, while BJP leaders questioned Dia Mirza’s message, the AIMIM targeted the BJP over its stance. This entire controversy has now sparked a fresh debate surrounding Diwali, pollution, and politics.
