Free bus travel for women over 60 in UP; SP hits back at Yogi’s move

Political activity is intensifying in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the assembly elections. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a major gift for the state’s elderly women just before Raksha Bandhan: lifelong free travel on UP Roadways buses for women aged 60 and above. While launching the ‘Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrushakti Yatra’ scheme in Lucknow, CM Yogi also launched a scathing attack on the Samajwadi Party and Akhilesh Yadav. He sharply criticized the SP regarding the law-and-order situation, women’s safety, and corruption that prevailed prior to 2017. Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party has hit back, dismissing the Yogi government’s scheme as a pre-election political ploy.
