Maharashtra: Row over Garba ahead of Navratri; political heat rises over VHP’s decision
Political tensions have escalated in Maharashtra regarding Garba and Dandiya events scheduled for Navratri. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has announced plans to issue strict guidelines for these celebrations. According to the VHP, members of the Muslim community will not be allowed to participate in Garba and Dandiya events. Additionally, the organization has mandated the verification of attendees’ Aadhaar cards and the application of a *tilak* on their foreheads.
The Congress has questioned this decision by the VHP, accusing it of targeting a specific community, whereas the BJP has defended the move as necessary to preserve the sanctity of the religious event.
