Meitei Women Hold Torchlight Rally in Imphal; Demand NRC Implementation and Release of Arrested Volunteers

Imphal, Manipur: A large number of women, including members of ‘Meira Paibis’ and residents from various localities, held a rally in the capital, Imphal, raising several demands—including the implementation of the NRC. The protesters demanded the implementation of the NRC with 1951 as the base year and the identification of illegal immigrants. Additionally, they called for the immediate release of arrested village volunteers from the valley and demanded equal treatment for all communities. The protesting women alleged that the government is adopting a discriminatory approach towards different communities amidst the ongoing conflict and warned that the agitation would be intensified if their demands were not addressed.
