Owaisi Raises Concerns About Religious Freedom Regarding UCC; BJP Calls It Unconstitutional

Politics surrounding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) has heated up once again in the country. AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi has launched a scathing attack on the government regarding the implementation of the UCC in Uttarakhand, Assam, and Gujarat. During a large gathering at Darussalam, Owaisi questioned how the UCC could be termed “Uniform” if its foundation rests on provisions derived from Hindu personal law. He also raised issues concerning the religious freedom of Muslims and personal laws. Following Owaisi’s statement, the BJP hit back, while Congress leader TS Singh Deo also questioned the imposition of UCC laws on anyone.
