The holy month of Sawan begins on July 30, 2026, marking the commencement of the Kanwar Yatra. The pilgrimage sees its greatest intensity in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand; consequently, the governments of both states are on high alert and have made special preparations for the event. In view of the rising number of Shiva devotees in Haridwar, the Uttarakhand government has asserted that it is fully prepared regarding security and logistical arrangements. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also reviewed these preparations. Whether it is the UP Police or the Uttarakhand Police, law enforcement agencies in both states are taking a strict stance regarding the Yatra; the responsibility for everything—from route diversions to ensuring the safety of the pilgrims—rests on their shoulders.
