Assembly elections in UP are due next year, yet SP leaders are exuding extraordinary confidence. We say this because SP General Secretary Shivpal Yadav visited Azam Khan, who is currently lodged in Rampur Jail; Shivpal appeared visibly upset upon seeing Azam Khan’s condition there. He also met with Azam Khan’s wife and elder son and inspected Jauhar University. Later, while speaking at an event, Shivpal declared that if the Samajwadi Party forms the government in Uttar Pradesh, he would ensure Azam Khan becomes the Home Minister. The BJP, however, maintains that while confidence is good, overconfidence is not; they argue that the SP can keep building castles in the air, but the public places its trust solely in the BJP.
