Significant data on Rohingyas and Bangladeshis settled in Jammu & Kashmir; why did they settle near the border?

The Jammu & Kashmir government has shared data regarding Rohingya and Bangladeshi nationals with the high-level committee constituted to examine demographic changes. According to the government, 7,656 Rohingyas and 504 Bangladeshi nationals have been identified across the 20 districts of Jammu & Kashmir. The figures indicate that 6,737 Rohingyas and 46 Bangladeshi nationals were identified in the Jammu division, while 919 Rohingyas and 458 Bangladeshi nationals were identified in the Kashmir division. Officials have expressed security concerns regarding their presence, particularly in areas close to the international border.
