Suspense over election symbols in Bengal ends; TMC symbol frozen; Mamata targets BJP and EC

Desk: A rift within the TMC had been evident since the West Bengal Assembly elections, with two factions at odds over the party’s name and election symbol. The ongoing dispute has now taken a new turn following a fresh order from the Election Commission. The Mamata-led Trinamool faction has been allotted the name “Mamata All India Trinamool Congress” and the “Football Player” election symbol by the Commission. Meanwhile, the Arup Roy/Ritabrata Banerjee faction has been allotted the name “Democratic Trinamool Congress” and the “Envelope” election symbol for the by-election.
