Tamil Nadu’s TVK government presents its first budget; fulfills promise of sarees and gold coins.

The TVK government of Tamil Nadu has presented its maiden budget. While tabling the budget in the Legislative Assembly, Finance Minister N. Mary Wilson clarified that the government’s goal is not merely to launch new schemes but to transform Tamil Nadu into a $1.5 trillion economy by 2036. The budget includes major announcements spanning various sectors—such as women’s welfare, youth, education, sports, housing, and the environment—as well as provisions for Hajj subsidies. An allocation of ₹812 crore has been made for the ongoing ‘Gold Coin and Silk Saree Scheme’ for women; this fulfills a promise made by Vijay in his pre-election manifesto. Additionally, the subsidy for first-time Hajj pilgrims has been increased from ₹25,000 to ₹35,000.
